Cutting the spending that has negative consequences does more than just provide savings and help society, it also puts people back to productive work that 1) adds tax revenue, 2) indirectly reduces the need for costly policing and internal security because it makes people concentrate on being productive instead of mischief; and 3) creates more products and services in the U.S., thus keeping money here than sending it overseas. All of these will improve efficiency of our society and add to the tax revenue. These take a couple of years to have their greatest effect which, unfortunately, won't happen if these programs are things-to-be-done-in-the-future only to be killed before they are fully implemented.

And all the pushback is from people who vote blue anyway. Maybe being moved off the dole will turn them into conservatives? We can only hope.

Preach! I really hope we can have this discussion again. I feel like this gets shelved away as “entitlement reform” and no one wants to touch it. As you explain, it’s so much more than that. It’s social reform.

Perhaps when we see how much better things get if we simply remove illegals off the dole, we’ll start working towards the never-do-wells that take advantage of the system.
