The last time I worked at store level, it was a big-brand athletic company, in a large-ish city on MLK Blvd, and when school let out, the morale of the store dropped as the predictable would happen and everyone was on high alert to try to stem the flood of merch leaving the store unpaid. One could say everyone was fatigued...
The irony was this was a "community store" where a portion of the profits went back to the community, but it closed due to the rampant loss caused by said community
I know exactly what you are talking about- it is summer vacation now, which means that we get a larger flood of people in general who just want to be in the AC (it's been in the high 90's the last two weeks!). But also we get a flood of kids and teens who have nothing else to, so they come in and wander around. Sometimes the issue is not stealing but just running around and making a ruckus or hanging out by sitting on the displays or furniture.
The other thing that bothers me is how people think we have "insurance" against theft or that "we can afford it" because we're so big, but that's not how business works- it all adds up. And when people say, "what do you care? It's not YOUR stuff being stolen." I have to kindly (at least most of the time) explain that cuts into profits due to "shrinkage" means less money for raises and bonuses. But they really don't care. Thanks for reading.
When stores close, people lose jobs, vendors lose money (and jobs) and there's a cascade of downstream effects, and the usual online retards still justify a breaking of the social contract and the erosion of a high trust society because "muh oppression"
Yep, same answer to why the hood is a food desert. Grocery store chains aren't racist. They're profit-driven and they don't keep a store open that is consistently in the red due to losses from theft.

Owners got tired of their auditoriums covered with litter and vandalized, and their cashiers getting robbed every week, and the audiences constantly yelling, screaming and carrying on so that anyone who wanted to actually *hear* the movie just couldn't.
Made the mistake of seeing a movie at a theater that is popular with that crowd. Never again.
I wasn't physically threatened or anything like that, but the fucking noise and non-stop talking and commenting on the movie killed it. That, and one motherfucker even took a phone call during the movie...on speakerphone naturally.
It would just be nice if we could have honest conversations in America today about causal effects that genuinely aim at addressing real problems. This applies to so many facets of our society today.

Too many people make a living from pimping off societal dysfunction (e.g., Sharpton & Crump). Too many politicians hold on to office by forgiving dysfunctional behavior.
The inability to disprove a charge of racism invests that word with too much power. It’s a shortcut to political influence that degrades public discourse.

You share some hard truths in your article. My only beef with some of these articles is that they dont talk about class. There are different classes among African Americans. But one would only know this if one spent time around the different classes. I have and I came from the Black underclass.
Most of these issues highlighted are more pronounced with poor and/or working class Blacks.
But what makes the issues worse is progressive middle class and elite Blacks often make excuses for them because of their own guilt of leaving the hood and race loyalty. This is one reason why I say they profit from this madness.
You make a salient point about “class” and yes it does matter but I tried to use the term “culture” or “subculture” as Thomas Sowell referred to these issues. But I would highly suggest you click the links in the article to Chi Brown’s channel, since I used him as a source for the 5 points mentioned and he discusses a lot about the excellent points you’re bringing up.
Lastly, I worked in LP and retail and as I mentioned in the article I have dealt with all kinds of people from all walks of life- from the white lady driving a Mercedes sports car and parked in the handicap spot I caught stealing, all the way down to homeless people stealing Gorilla glue for drug purposes. I’ve seen some pretty weird crap, but the point I was trying to make is that it often seems that only when it comes to youthful black offenders do I hear the most excuses made for their actions by quite a lot of (but obviously not all) people. And those offenders know that and use it to their advantage to push the shoplifting envelope further and further with each visit.
Im sorry but I rarely hear anyone making excuses for the shoplifting Karen, or the angsty teen who thinks the candy rack is a buffet , or a guy from China I caught and pretened not to understand (Pretty sure they have stores in China, stuffing stuff in your backpack and walking past the registers is not a “misunderstanding”)

I have worked with a variety of Black youth from different class backgrounds along with other groups. I understand how the word subculture makes your point.
I only mentioned class because in my younger years, I have been racially profiled and followed in stores many times even though I dont dress or act like an offender and have 2 degrees. I think profiling in stores can happen for 2 reasons: Because of old school racism or because stores arent able to give a proper legal response to shoplifters so they watch certain groups closely. I have experience both.

Segregation existed in the South, the poorest, most backward part of the us. There was no benefit to it. It was more a legacy of Southern ignorance and their inability to engage in intelligent discourse.
